We Run This State

We Run This State

Bulldog sophomore LB Jordan Jenkins held up a fan's homemade sign after the historic 41-34 double-overtime win over Georgia Tech at Bobby Dodd Stadium in 2013.  The sign reads "We Run This State," a phrase that became popular after Georgia's 2009 upset win of then top-10 Georgia Tech.  In the 2009 game, UGA outrushed the prolific Georgia Tech ground attack 339 yards to 205.  Ever since that 30-24 win in 2009, the Bulldogs have broken out this expression to remind Tech of their place in the state of Georgia.

Uga IX

Uga IX

Since 1956, a white English bulldog named Uga has graced the sidelines of Georgia football.  Uga IX, a fan-favorite also known as Russ, served from 2012-2015 and finished with a record of 44-19.  On Nov. 30, 2013, Uga IX took his rightful place in Atlanta on the sidelines of the annual UGA-GT football game.

Huddle

Head football coach Mark Richt gathers the team around him in the huddle prior to the 2013 football game against Georgia Tech. Richt would finish his career at UGA with a perfect 8-0 record at Bobby Dodd Stadium, where he has since won again while the head coach at Miami.

Gurley 2

Gurley 2

Running back Todd Gurley, who is now with the LA Rams in the NFL and was named the league's Rookie of the Year in 2015, gets a feel for the ball in what would be his last game against Georgia Tech.  Gurley was injured the next season and would miss UGA's 2014 overtime loss to the Jackets.

Richt

Richt

Mark Richt was the head coach for the University of Georgia football team from 2001 to 2015.  He would finish up as one of the winningest coaches in UGA history with a .740 winning percentage and a 145-51 record.  In his tenure at UGA, Richt won two SEC championships and won the SEC East five times.

Hutson Mason

Hutson Mason

In what was supposed to be Aaron Murray's victory lap against the Yellow Jackets, Hutson Mason shined. Murray went down to a knee injury against the Kentucky Wildcats the week before, so redshirt junior Mason was forced into duty.

Mason's first start was a slow one, but he got it going in the second half to lead UGA's comeback 41-34 double-overtime victory with 299 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air against one interception.

During his senior season in 2014, Mason would finish with the single-season record for completion percentage among all UGA quarterbacks.

Tight End

Tight End

Bulldog tight end Michael Bennett hauls in a 21-yard catch halfway through the fourth quarter of UGA's comeback win against Georgia Tech in 2013.  Bennett, who finished the day with 53 yards and a touchdown on five catches, set up a 2-yard Todd Gurley touchdown run with this second-down catch that ended at the Tech 16.

Mason Cries

Mason Cries

After dreaming of playing for the Bulldogs his whole life, the Marietta native showed plenty of emotion after what was undoubtedly an emotional first start at quarterback.  Mason led the Bulldogs to a 41-34 win over the in-state rival Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Nick Chubb

Nick Chubb

The phenom from Cedartown, Nick Chubb would finish his career at UGA as the second-most prolific running back in SEC history by yards with 4,769 rushing yards.  The only person ahead of Chubb on that list is legendary Heisman winner Herschel Walker.  If not for an injury shortened 2015, where Chubb gained just 747 yards in six games, it is likely that Chubb would have surpassed Walker.

Chubb is expected to be an early-round draft pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

During the 2015 season opener against UL-Monroe, Chubb ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns on just 16 carries.

Keith Marshall

Keith Marshall

Running back Keith Marshall came in at the same time as Todd Gurley, and like Gurley he spent several games sidelined due to injury.  Even though Marshall never quite reached his full potential at UGA, he was picked up by the Washington Redskins in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL draft.

Marshall finished his UGA career with 1,379 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. He also added three receiving touchdowns with 225 receiving yards.

In the 2015 season opener against UL-Monroe, Marshall picked up two touchdowns and 73 yards on just 10 carries.

Sony Michel

Sony Michel

Sony Michel saved the Bulldogs from an embarrassing loss to Georgia Southern with this 25-yard touchdown run on Georgia's first play from scrimmage in the first and only overtime period.  The Dawgs held Southern scoreless on their overtime possession after the Eagles took UGA to overtime tied 17-17 at the end of regulation.  The 25-yard run was Michel's only touchdown on a night when he finished with 132 yards on 23 carries.  Georgia would win 23-17 after trailing twice in the second half.

Michel and Chubb became the most prolific running back duo in college football history with a combined 8,384 rushing yards.  The pair also combined for 77 rushing touchdowns.

While Chubb earned most of the praise, Michel compiled barely less than half of the duo's productivity.  By himself, Michel picked up 3,638 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns.  The only two UGA running backs to do more than Michel are his teammate, Chubb, and the legendary Herschel Walker.

Michel is expected to go in the first or second round of the 2018 NFL draft.
